SMC Corporation boardroom and office renovation
Castle Hill, NSW
About the client
SMC Corporation is a Japanese company that has established a position as the world leader in advanced pneumatic control to support industrial automation. The Australian head office in Castle Hill was established in 1966 and has about 260 employees.
The challenge
SMC needed a new boardroom and to update the look of their offices and to expand the office space to improve team efficiency.
The first project was to update the boardroom which is used for meetings. The boardroom was dated with tinted glazing and timber doors. The SMC team wanted this space to have a more modern feel.
The second project was to create better use of space for a growing team. The warehouse operations team had grown over the years and their office space was now very cramped. The team could no longer fit comfortably in the space they had and this was causing productivity issues.
The solution
The Excel Tradeworks team was engaged to deliver these renovations for the SMC team.
The first project for the boardroom involved removing the tinted glazing and wooden doors which looked dated. This was replaced with a new anodised frame section with clear glazing and a new door to provide a fresh, modern look. The lighting for the room was also upgraded.
The second project was to perform alterations and additions for the warehouse operations team's office to create an open space that fit everyone comfortably. To create space, we removed a dividing wall between two offices allowing the floor plan to open up for more desk space. The project required adjusting floor, wall and ceiling levels to match up as well as a redesign of the lighting for the new room. The data network cabling was also upgraded.
Because the Excel Tradeworks team is dual licensed we were able to carry out the building, data and electrical works efficiently in house, ensuring the team were up and running fast.
